Happy Halloween!

We had a great Halloween around here!  I love days when Michael works from home!  It is so great to have him around until like 8:59.  We had a great morning today with the kids, which really isn't always the case.  But it was a great start to the day.  The kids were happy and we had a lovely morning.

After getting the boys off to school, I sent the girls downstairs to play and got a coat of paint up on one of the kitchen walls.  It feels like a super duper extra bonus when I can get something like that done while the children are awake.

Then we headed out with some good friends to an awesome preschooler Halloween party put on by Minneapolis Parks and Recs, only to find that we had to pre-register since there were so many people there, and we couldn't actually go inside.  Sophie was completely devastated.  Luckily, going to lunch with our friends at McDonald's and playing at the play land took her mind off of it, and then we headed back home and did a hand print spider painting craft, and after that all was forgiven!  Thank heavens for good friends and distractable children!

Then we laid Hannah down for a nap and since Michael was working from home, Sophie and I left her napping while we went to the Re/Store to see if they had any baseboard, and wouldn't you know, they did!  I scored all of the baseboard for our kitchen (unused and already white, mind you) for a whopping $4!  Seriously!  It kind of made my day.

Then we got back home and I put a coat of the right kind of white paint on a baseboard while Hannah and Sophie had a snack, and then we went to get the boys from school.  The kids played around, I made dinner, we went to visit a good friend to show her the kids' Halloween costumes, and then it was trick or treating time!

This year Ryan was the guy from Jetpack Joyride, Calvin was a power ranger, Sophie was the snow queen, and Hannah was a doggie.  I snapped a few pictures of them before it got dark, and I love how they are just dripping with personality.

Trick or treating started off a little rough because Hannah decided she hated her costume and was very vocal about it.  But the big ones had a blast, even though it was 29 degrees outside.  At least they listened when I suggested they bundle up!  About halfway through, Hannah decided that it was worth putting her dog costume back on so she could get candy.  I think she was glad she did!  She had the whole system down, and said "Trick or treat" and "thank you" at each house.  The kids LOVED everyone's decorations, and it made me want to be more festive.  They would love it.

We have awesome neighbors, and it was fun to go around and see people.  We only made it down our street about 12 or so houses before the kids were too cold to do anything else, so we headed back home where the girls ate candy in the tub, Ryan took a shower, and Calvin sorted candy.  It was a really fun Halloween.  I love our family!

The most wonderful time of the year!

It's years like these that make me realize that my long standing and firmly held belief that autumn is the greatest of all seasons is spot on!  It is like it has been gift wrapped and dropped off on our porch with all it's 65 degree and colorful glory.  I love fall!  And this has been the best weather I've had during a Minnesota fall yet.

I looked at the extended weather forecast last night and realized that today will probably be the last truly amazingly beautiful fall day.  I honestly can't believe we've made it to Halloween week with weather still in the 60's, so I won't complain.  After all, this is Minnesota!  It can't last forever!  At any rate, we spent most of our free time outside today, soaking up the beauty!  Hannah and I went to a park with AnnaMarie and the gang while Sophie was at preschool, then they came over and we played out in the yard together.  After getting the boys from school, they did their homework in the backyard and then we played around even more, until it got overcast and started to sprinkle.  It was so beautiful.  I will hold on tight to these beautiful, sunny days, and for the next 6 months when all  I can see is white, I will picture my backyard just as it is now!

We have had so many beautiful days outside enjoying the fall.  I've posted a lot of these pictures on Facebook, but I'll include them here, too.  We'll miss you, beautiful weather!  Thanks for the long, lovely visit!

Jane and Hannah at the park today.  Jane just loved on that little Hannah, and Hannah just loved her right back!

These two are best little buddies.  I love them together.

I love these three.  They had a snack picnic out on the hill behind Grandma's house and then rolled down the hill in the picnic blanket:

Kitchen Update October 19

This week in the kitchen was more tedious and focused than last week. We worked on just the floor, all week long. Monday night I cemented and screwed down the tile backer boards.

On Tuesday I started tiling. Here I'm dry-fitting the tiles to see where I want to start

And here's Tuesday's work. It took more than 4 hours to get this little bit done because I didn't know what I was doing.

Wednesday night a friend came over and helped. In another 4 hours we got most of the rest put in. You can't see it here, but there's a 2-inch gap between the tiles and the wall, and I hadn't tiled under the sink yet either.

Friday and Saturday night Caroline and I finished up the tiling!

We still need to grout it tomorrow and then we can move at least the stove back in.
