While Ryan is in North Dakota at Grandma and Grandpa Walton's house for the week (my parents rock), today I took the other three to a little bird show at the library down the street.  Hannah napped, and Calvin and Sophie really enjoyed it!  Katie and Jane met up with us there, along with AnnaMarie and Jack, and it was lots of fun.  The bird trainers read and acted out a story, taught the kids some basics about birds, and then showed them a chicken and a parrot.

The kids loved it and asked some good questions.  Calvin asked how often chickens lay eggs, and Katie asked if the parrots eat oranges.  Sophie asked if the parrot could fly, and Jane informed them that she had a lot of questions, but then got side tracked.

During the presentation, the bird trainers told the kids that both parrots have very strong beaks, and that it would hurt if they bit you.  So at the end when they invited the kids to have an up-close look at the birds, and Calvin went but was very wary of them!  A classic Calvin moment.  Everybody else seemed to really like looking at them, though!  It was a nice little activity to do.  Especially today, when Sophie and Calvin have either been getting hurt or arguing all day long.  Hooray for birds!

That last picture has got to be one of my favorite pictures ever. What a Calvin.
