Calvin, oh Calvin

So, I still have a lot to catch up on blog-wise. Benjamin came home from exchange, James came home from his mission, I went to Idaho with Sophie, we went up north to visit in Ironwood, we hit a deer, the list goes on and on! But this picture of Calvin HAD to be shared.  Back at the end of May, Michael took the boys fishing one at a time, and the boys loved spending quality time with their Daddy.  Ryan came home very happy and excited and remembering every detail, ready to tell me all about it.  Calvin came home looking like this:

That's right, Calvin fell in!  Apparently Calvin got a little too wiggly and fell head first into the lake!  Michael was right there to pull him out, and the water was only a foot or so deep, put little Calvin was COVERED in mud.  He came in the door wearing nothing but his boots and his Daddy's shirt and a whole lot of mud.  This picture doesn't quite do it justice.  I had to clean out every crevice of his face with q-tips. Can you guess the only detail Calvin remembers about the fishing trip?  Poor little Calvin.  Of course he would be the one to fall in!

And here are a couple of pictures of Calvin from last night.  Grandma and Grandpa Walton came into town to visit and took Calvin on a ride on a real train and then took the kids to the Mall of America to ride the rides.  This is how he looked when I opened the car door to take him to bed.  Aren't grandparents the best?  My kids are never happier than when they are spending time with their grandma and grandpas!

Buy your kids guns!

Would you rather have your kids look like this...

Or this?

Benjamin came home from a year long trip as a foreign exchange student two weeks ago, and James got home from a 2 year mission last week, so we went up to Ironwood for the week to visit them!

Caroline probably has a whole boatload of posts and photos to share about the trip, but she's sleeping right now, and these pictures were on my camera, so here they are.

We had fun hanging out with everyone for most of the week. We mostly just hung out since I had to work, but on Friday James, Benjamin, Ryan and I went out to the gravel pit to shoot guns.

Ryan practiced with his BB gun.

James, Benjamin and I took turns shooting the rifle and shotgun. I was surprised at how cheap shotgun amo is.  $7 for a 25 pack of shells, and $7 for 90 clay pigeons.

We had a great time and all went home with sore shoulders. It was even more fun than sitting around on our computers all night.

Ryan Lands A Fish by Himself

Ryan is a good fishing buddy. Until yesterday he has been patient, practicing his casting and reeling in fish for me from time to time.

Yesterday we were fishing on the Mississippi and Ryan caught a fish all by himself!

I had put the worm on his hook, cast it out into the river and handed him the pole. While I was getting Calvin's rod set up Ryan started dancing around. and reeling in his fishing pole "Uh guys, I got one! I'm reeling him in!".

Usually this routine indicates that he has gotten a good snag
and that I'm going to have to tie a new hook on for him. This time however, I could see his line moving all over the place in the water. Sure enough a few moments later he swung a nice looking 12 inch channel catfish up on to the shore!

Ryan's Idea of Fun:

Hey, MOM!  Sometime we should stay up 'till the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and go clean a BUNCH of peoples houses while they're ALL SLEEPING and they WON'T EVEN KNOW!  Then it will be all clean when they wake up.  Wouldn't that be GREAT?!!!!!?!!!!

Love the enthusiasm, but no, I don't really think that sounds like a lot of fun.  Also, we might get arrested.  Ahhh, Ryan, life would be pretty boring without you!

July already??

I can't believe it's July already!  This summer is flying by.  So, in the interest of getting back to blogging about what we are actually up to right now, I am squeezing my last 2 posts from our trip to Utah into one post.  Sorry for the picture overload!
Some of my very favorite moments during our trip were just nice, ordinary activities like taking a walk all together or going to the park.  It was so great to just be able to enjoy hanging out with my parents.  I love them so much, and I miss living close to them!  Here are some pictures from a walk we all took together on a lovely, lazy Sunday afternoon:

And now for some of my favorite pictures of the entire trip.  We all went to the park one afternoon and the kids had SO much fun playing with Grandma and Grandpa.  It was just relaxing, happy and prefect. Here they are:

Grandpa was a trooper and pushed Calvin and Luke on the swings forever, and boy did they love it!

Mom and Dad.  They make such a great couple, through and through!

Grandpa and Ryan.

I love this one so much:

And I love these pictures so much, too

My dad has always been so tender and loving, and it makes me so happy to see my kids get to enjoy spending time with him as much as I do.  He is such an awesome grandpa!
