Hiking to Stewart Falls

While Michael's family were in town, we took a hike up to Stewart Falls. Michael was in class, so I went with Michael's sisters AnnaMarie and Christy and brother Benjamin, and of course Ryan. Let me tell you, that hike is a lot longer with a 30 pound kid on your back! I carried him the whole way, except for a 5 minute break where Benjamin carried him. I wonder if there's a merit badge for that? Anyways, we made it to the falls after about an hour to an hour and a half of hiking. It was beautiful, and we had a great time. Ryan even caught a nap on the way up (ahh, the life of a baby!) and woke up just as we were walking practically underneath the falls. He loves water, so he woke up very excited about the fact that there was water all over the place. We had a great time, but boy was I sore the next day! Here are some pics of the adventure:

I think this picture is hilarious

Swimming!

Some of Michael's little siblings came into town this week, and we all had a blast! I think we went to the pool practically every day they were here, and Ryan loved it. Here are some of the pics:

Surprisingly, Ryan actually thought this was fun!

He felt a lot more comfortable on the stairs where he could touch the bottom, though.

He LOVED wearing goggles...and pulling them off of your face.

With Uncle Benjamin (after stealing his goggles).

With Aunt Christy.

Ryan is learning how to blow bubbles and kick his legs in the pool. He also likes to dunk if you go under with him, but if you just dunk him, he doesn't think it's quite as fun.

More to come soon!

Puddle Jumping and a Visit to Aunt Danica's

Ok, so I am actually combining two posts in one...because I'm lazy. Last week it was actually pretty cold and rainy here in Provo, which meant Ryan got to wear his Green Bay Packers sweatshirt once more before he grows out of it AND he got to jump in a big puddle on our driveway. Michael and I were just standing there saying how cute he was jumping in those puddles and then I just had to run grab the camera (and video camera--we did double coverage) and take some pictures.

Michael and Ryan enjoy the puddle together

And of course he has to get as much of himself wet as possible

Just in case you missed the big puddle he's standing in...THERE IT IS!

I like this picture because of his reflection in the puddle

Looking very innocent

And now for the second part of the post...

At the end of May, Ryan and I got to go with my Mom to visit my sister Danica in Asheville, North Carolina. We had so much fun! We played cards, went shopping, went to see Pirates of the Caribbean (my mom and I each only saw half due to the ridiculously loud toddler in tow), and we went for a little Memorial Day picnic by Lake Julian. Here are some pictures of our picnic:

He really likes juice boxes.

All smiles

Ryan absolutely adores Danica. He likes pretty much everybody, but not like this. He kept patting her arm and saying her name over and over and over again. He always wanted her to hold him and every night when she would go home and we would go to our hotel, he would cry like there was just no tomorrow. It was pretty cute, except for all the crying. Anyways, now every time we go to my parents' house and he sees her picture on the wall, he goes nuts. So watch out Grandpa, you've got competition.

Fishing at Silver Lake

So, today we went fishing at Silver Lake (up American Fork Canyon) and didn't even get a single bite. But we had fun! I made kettle corn for the first time ever, and it was delicious, so we had lots of yummy snacks to eat while we watched our bobbers not move. But we got lots of fun pictures, and Ryan loves water, rocks and sticks, so he had a great time. In fact, Michael is the only one in our family who even likes fish, so he was the only one who was bummed out that we didn't catch anything. But here are some pictures from the excursion:

Look! He's got a stick!

Now he's going to fish with it.

He is actually "moo"ing in this picture.

Wading...

Going after Michael...

After deciding it was too cold.

Get excited! I have a blog!

Ok, so I seriously thought blogs were ridiculous and then I started reading my friends' blogs and now I'm hooked. Plus I'm doing a blog for my photography business and thought it might be more fun if I could also write about every day things once in a while.

So, for all of you out there who I haven't really talked to in a while (sorry!), here's the update on my life. Michael and I are still in Provo. That's right, 5 years and counting. It really should ahve been time to go a while ago, but Michael kept switching majors, bless his heart, and now I've decided to go back for my masters, so we'll be here for 2 more years! I graduated from BYU in German in December of 2005 and Ryan was born 2 months later, in February of 06. Michael is studying Information Technology and will be done in a year, and I decided to go back for my MBA which will start in August and take 2 years. Sometimes I think I am absolutely nuts. When I was majoring in German, everyone would ask me what I was going to do with that, and I would say "Graduate." Now I feel like it's basically the same thing all over again! I don't plan on going to work full time or even part time in the corporate world. I pretty much just want to be better and running my own business and maybe eventually do some consulting for small businesses.

By the way, in case any of you missed that, I've been running my own photography business for the last 3 or 4 years, and I'm loving it. It's called Elements by Caroline Photography, and the website is Elements by Caroline Photography (http://elements-by-caroline-photography.com/) in case anyone wants to check it out. I do weddings, engagements, families, you name it. It's lots of fun, but I definitely wouldn't get anything done if it weren't for Michael. He's my manager, pretty much, and keeps me in line. Anyone have any friends getting married? It'd be great to have enough money to buy my textbooks for this fall!

Ryan is now almost 16 months and he is a ball of energy. He's the size of the average 30 month old and he runs around asking for cookies and pointing at and saying the names of practically everything in the house. Cookie is definitely his favorite word. Well, I take it back. It ties with Grandpa. Anyways, he sees something he doesn't recognize, he automatically says "COOKIE!" and gets all excited about it. Obsess much? Yeah. Anyways, he loves horses and clocks and toast. He's lots of fun, and even though I often feel like I'm on the verge of going nuts as the mother of a one and a half year old, I'm really going to miss being home all day come fall. Luckily, Michael will be playing Mr. Mom for most of the time, so he won't be completely lonely.

Well, that should do for a little blog intro. More thrilling stuff to come!
